Double WHS Alumni Spotlights (You guessed it... twins!)

Mar 21, 2022

Our WHS Alumni Spotlight is shining on 2 outstanding WHS Alumni who happen to be twins that are both teaching at Wilmington City Schools in our Preschool Program! Meet Ciara (Murdock) McGee and Elexis (Murdock Wiederhold) from the Class of 2011!

Ciara McGee, Class of 2011

Our WHS Alumni Spotlight is on Ciara (Murdock) McGee, Class of 2011. During Ciara’s time at WHS she was on the soccer team and both football and basketball cheerleading squads. She also participated in multiple theater productions. Some of her favorite memories from High School are Friday night football games, game day bus rides, opening nights for theater productions, and being a Project Trust Camp Counselor!

After graduating from WHS, Ciara attended Ashland University where she received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education. I then took a position at East End Elementary as a Preschool Intervention Specialist. This school year is Ciara’s 7th year of teaching. Ciara shared that she has learned so much throughout her time in the classroom. It is an added bonus to her that she gets to have her twin sister right next door and on the same Preschool team! Ciara is currently working on completing her Masters Degree in Special Education with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders through Bowling Green State University.

Ciara married her husband, Joshua McGee, in 2016. They live here in Wilmington and have one fur baby, a German Shepard named Leo. When she is not teaching, she loves traveling with her husband and recording episodes of their podcast. She also enjoys hanging out with family and friends, reading a good book, playing with their dog, and being involved in the church where she serves on the production team and teaches a middle school youth group.

Ciara’s advice to current and future WHS students is this: “Remember to give yourself grace and to speak kindly to yourself. Your own thoughts are so powerful. Set goals and make a plan for your future, but allow for flexibility and change. ‘Grow through what you go through!;”

We are excited to have Ciara teaching our youngest students. Every day she provides a loving and nurturing classroom environment, rich with opportunities for learning and growth, helping our WCS Preschool students.

Elexis Wiederhold, Class of 2011

Our WHS Alumni Spotlight is on Elexis (Murdock) Wiederhold, Class of 2011. While in high school, Elexis participated in Soccer, Theater, Cheerleading (Football/Basketball), and the Wilmingtones. Her favorite high school memory is when Nick Lachey showed up to Wilmingtones and spent the class period with them!

After graduation, Elexis received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Intervention from Ashland University. She is currently working toward a Master's Degree through Bowling Green State University in Special Education with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorders. This is her 7th year teaching in the Wilmington City School District at East End Elementary as a Preschool Intervention Specialist.

In 2017, Elexis married her high school sweetheart, Tim Wiederhold. They have one adorable son and two cute dogs. In her free time you can find her curled up with a good book, singing on the praise and worship team at church, and spending time with her family!

Her advice to current and future WHS students is: “Get involved! Being a part of a group, team or organization will teach you so many great life and leadership skills. You will need them more than you realize right now! Don't be afraid to take a leap of faith, calculated risks have some of the best outcomes. Create as many memories as you can during time at WHS. You will look back, and they will be some of the best parts of your life.”

Our preschool is thrilled to have Elexis teaching our next generation of students. Each day she works to create an environment that fosters learning and growth, meeting the varied needs of each student, so that they can become their best selves.
