Important WCS Mask Update!

Posted on: August 23, 2021
WCS News

The WCS Superintendent and the Board of Education determined that in order to keep our staff and students safe and our schools open, we are going to require all students and staff to wear a mask for the duration of the 1st grading period, regardless of vaccination status.

  • This requirement goes into effect immediately for all staff on Tuesday, Aug 24, 2021.

  • All students in PreK-12 grades will be expected to wear masks starting Wednesday, Aug 25, 2021.

It is in your child’s best interest to encourage them to wear a mask starting as soon as possible.

Reasons for this decision:

  • Clinton County has the second highest incidence of COVID cases per capita in the state of Ohio.  For several weeks, Clinton County has been in the top 10.

  • In three days, Clinton County went from 315 active cases to over 342.  These were the numbers of active cases we experienced last November.

  • We have more active student COVID cases in the first week of opening school than our highest week last school year.

  • Students who are not wearing a mask are more likely to lose instructional time because if they become ill or are required to be in quarantine.

  • In this region we are seeing an increase in younger people being hospitalized due to COVID-19.

Our staff will provide guidance and support to our students as we transition to masks for this short time period and we will be patient as students adjust.

  • If your child has a documented sensory issue or disability that prevents them from safely wearing a mask, please contact their school.

  • Disposable masks will be available at each school for students who forget to bring their own.

  • Staff will help provide guidance and direction for students to take safe mask breaks.

  • Masks will not be required when students are able to be outside, unless they are congregated in a confined area for any reason.

Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe during this critical time.  Please also continue to practice social distancing and mask-wearing during non-school activities to help your child stay safe and stay in school.
