2019-20 Revised Requirements for 7th & 12th

The Ohio Department of Health revised the School Immunization Requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.   In addition to all students required to receive one dose of Tdap and one dose of meningococcal vaccine BEFORE entering the 7th grade, 7th graders will need 2 doses of varicella and a dose of Menactra in 7th and 8th grade.

As a reminder, all 7th grade students are also required to have had 4 doses of polio vaccine, 4 doses of DTaP, 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine, 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine, and 2 dose of varicella (chickenpox).  Please check your child’s immunization record to make sure that he/she has received all of the required vaccines.

All pupils entering the 12th grade are required to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease. A second (2nd) dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 12th grade. The second (2nd) dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday with at least eight (8) weeks between the first and second dose. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.  If a pupil is 15 years of age or younger and in 12th grade, only one dose is required.

All of the above vaccines are available at the Clinton County Health Department (CCHD).  Children who are uninsured or whose health insurance does not cover immunizations are eligible to receive vaccines free or at a reduced cost through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.   Immunization clinics are held at the CCHD every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8-9 a.m., every Wednesday afternoon from 1-2:45 p.m. and the second and fourth Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m.   CCHD can bill most private health insurance, Medicaid and sliding scale.  CVS, Walmart, and Kroger give the shots as well.

If you have questions regarding your child’s immunizations, please call your school nurse, the health department (nursing department, 382-7221), or your child’s physician.
